BULGARIA  >>  KOSTENETS & KLYSURA MINERAL WATER

The Republic of Bulgaria is blessed with super abundance of pure mineral water. There are more than 550 spots of 1,600 mineral water springs in Bulgaria with a total debit of 4,900 liters per second. Bulgarian thermal mineral water is distinguished for its great diversity in chemical composition. In fact, every kind of known mineral water may be found in the country. Prevalent is the slightly mineralized water of various physical-and-chemical composition, biologically active microelements, temperature, and healing features.

In Thracian times, flourishing settlements sprang up around the hot mineral springs and many nymphaeums were built. In Roman times, spa centers were established, such as Augusta (present-day Hissarya), Dezudava (Sandanski), Pautalia (Kyustendil) and Serdica (Sofia), where even the Roman emperors Ulpius Trajanus, Septimius Severus, Maximilianus and Justinianus sought treatment for their ailments.

Mineral water in Bulgaria is usually drinkable and, therefore, indispensable in the production of soft drinks. It represents an important economic opportunity due to the proximity of water-starved markets in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East.
The mineral water springs of Kostenets and Klysura are located near Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria. The mineral water does not contain nitrates, phosphate or any other pollutants. It contains only low levels of dissolved substances, a desirable combination of alkaline and other ingredients, optimal fluoride contents and a pleasant taste.
